In Remembrance of Ghandi
10.04.07 (7:22 pm)   [edit]

On the 138th anniversary of the birth of Mahatma Gandhi, world leaders reflected on the message of this wise man and his affect on history. "Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh welcomed Tuesday as the first International Day of Non-Violence coinciding with Mahatma Gandhi's 138th birthday.

"The 192 members of the U.N. General Assembly unanimously adopted the date as a commemoration of Gandhi's message of non-violent conflict resolution, equality and harmony. The United Nations adopted the resolution June 17, 2007.

"Prime Minister Singh acknowledged the occasion highlights the continued relevance of Gandhi's message."more

Here is the irony of a man who lived by peace, dying by violence. But his message of non-violence and peaceful resistance reverberated around the world, and was responsible for much of the social change in the second half of the 20th Century, not only in India but around the world.

In the news today is a very hopeful development:

"A rare summit and apparent progress on halting North Korea's nuclear program raise expectations on the Korean Peninsula.

"As a plan to declare and disable North Korea's nuclear facilities by the end of the year moved forward, the leaders of North Korea and South Korea met Tuesday in Pyongyang in a historic summit aimed at symbolizing a future of reconciliation between the two previous archenemies."more

In 1950 L. Ron Hubbard wrote Dianetics: the Modern Science of Mental Health, and began the book with these words: “A science of mind is a goal which has engrossed thousands of generations o Man. Armies, dynasties and whole civilizations have perished for the lack of it. Rome went to dust for the want of it. China swims in blood for the need of it. And down in the arsenal is an atom bomb, its hopeful nose full-armed in ignorance of it.” This is as true today as it was in 1950. My optimism on a resolution of the most important situations on this planet is running high and this news only adds to it. But I'll tell you, the June release by Mr. David Miscavige of all of L. Ron Hubbard's basic books and lectures, including the new edition of the Dianetics book--a beautiful new version of a real classic. It has a complete glossary of terms used in the book, and is very easy to read and assimilate.
