Congrats to Robert the Fox
01.27.07 (7:40 pm)   [edit]
Robert the Fox is one of my favorite characters. He's the gruff Scotsman in Battlefield Earth, the novel by , who is Johnny Goodboy Tyler's stalwart lietenant - always watching his back and solving problems, if a bit TOO concerned for Johnny's welfare (gives Johnny claustrophobia sometimes when he is just about to risk his life and Robert comes along to tell him to be careful!)

But there is a different Robert the Fox (though neamed after that character I'm sure -- a Scientologist with a passion for blogging.

This Robert just posted his 100th Scientology post on his blog.

Hey, Robert. Congratulations!

Good references: the Scientology Handbook David Miscavige

Scientology in Boston
01.23.07 (10:06 am)   [edit]
Here's the blog of a great guy from Boston - Gerard Rena.

Gerard is the president of the Church of Scientology of Boston.

That's him on the left, campaigning for human rights education in Massachusets.

Gerard makes a point in a recent blog:

Scientology sees man as a spiritual being, not just a stimulus-response machine made up of chemicals that just happened to land in the right place at the right time.

That then means that things like justice, ethics, help, friendship, dedication -- these are spiritual qualities, not just something your genes or environment dictate to you.

The Scientology Handbook has a chapter that explains a lot more about this, and then follows that up with informaton on how you can improve your native qualities, and be more like the person you always wanted to be.

Creating a New Reality

The basic thing that holds most of us from achieving success is that we lack selfesteem at the very deepest subconscious level. We place a ceiling on what we are capable of achieving, because it makes us feel better about ourselves and our own mediocre achievements. Somehow, it's easier to shield ourselves with dozens of excuses than to admit to ourselves that we could have done better, if only we had the nerve and the self-belief.

As Michelangelo said, "The greatest danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we reach it".

The argument presented most often is that it's easy to say that one's attitude dictates the altitude that one may achieve in life. However, in reality a lot of other forces are in play. You may think that you cannot succeed because you do not have enough experience, or because you have financial problems and money begets money, or because you are disadvantaged in some other way.

If so, you need to consider the examples of people like Henry Ford and Thomas Edison. Both of these men had nothing more than basic schooling. Stevie Wonder is blind. the world's leading cosmologist, Stephen Hawking, is in a wheelchair and cannot even speak without a voice machine. Oprah Winfrey was born black and dirt-poor.

Inerestingly, the prerequisite is NOT that you need any prior experience of talent in that which you seek. Rather, it is the purpose, backed with the perseverance to never give up in accomplishing it that brings about lasting success.

Well I think there's a lot of truth to what Dawn writes here, but it doesn't really give you a way to do something about your own life. Is it luck that Oprah was able to raise herself up? or are you limited by the talent you were born with?

One of my favorite books is The Way To Happiness. One of the chapters of the book talks about how to accomplish being competent, and here's a terrific video on the subject.

Since everyone wants to do better in life (or nearly everyone) I thought I'd pass this on!

Across the Generation Gap
01.21.07 (10:54 pm)   [edit]
I was a 60's person -- went to college in 1964.

With certain rare exceptions I had nothing in common with the older generation all of whom I considered were part of the establishment.

So one thing that really strikes me is how, in Scientology, age just doesn't enter into the equation. Neither does sex or race. People are just people. What I mean is that when you are dealing with people who all know they aren't their bodies -- body differences just aren't a bit deal. There are several 20-year-olds who I'm as close to as the almost-60 somethings of my own generation.

One young girl in particular I really admire. She was about 18 when the tsunami in South East Asia hit, right after Christmas 2004. She and her sister packed their bags and left of Sri Lanka within days of the disaster and they spent about 4 months with the Scientology Disaster Relief team there.

And she was so thrilled with what she had learned and the experience of helping people as a Scientology Volunteer Minister that she signed up to join one of the Volunteer Minister Goodwill Tours.

Over the past several months Scientology churches in Australia have been helping in one relief effort after another -- Australian bushfires Indonesian earthquake, Philippines typhoon.

These people who just drop everything to go help as VMs are pretty remarkable beings.

And so I just wanted to say so!

Self Analysis
01.19.07 (11:36 pm)   [edit]
wrote a post about Self Analysis this week, and I remembered how much I loved that book.

When I first got into Scientology I got a copy of the book, and I spent most of the day one Sunday going through the lists in it.

By the end of the day I was completely extroverted and on top of the world.

I also think it has one of the best descriptions I've ever read of Scientology and Dianetics.

Beautiful Children - Worthwhile Purpose
01.19.07 (1:16 am)   [edit]
I was completely taken with the beautiful children I saw on Betsy D's blog tonight.

I wish I had a recording of them saying the Drug-Free-Marshals pledge.

And as cute as they are (and they certainly are) there is a serious message here. That we all have to take responsibility for the kids and help them sidestep the anguish of addiction.

Interesting New Elements
01.17.07 (1:43 pm)   [edit]
I just found this great posting from menfreya.tblog.com that I had to share!

Two new elements added to the Periodic Table of the Elements:

WOMANIUM and MANIUM

1. Element Name: WOMANIUM

Symbol: WO

Atomic Weight: (Don't even go there)

Physical Properties: Generally soft and round in form. Boils at nothing

and may freeze at any time. Melts when treated properly. Very Bitter if not used well.

Chemical Properties: Very active. Highly unstable. Possesses strong affinity with gold, silver, platinum and precious stones. Violent when

left alone. Able to absorb great amounts of exotic food. Turns slightly green when placed next to a better specimen.

Usage: Highly ornamental. An extremely good catalyst for dispersion of wealth. Probably the most powerful income reducing agent known.

Caution: Highly explosive in inexperienced hands.

***************

2. Element Name: MANIUM

Symbol: XY

Atomic Weight: (180 +/- 50)

Physical Properties: Solid at room temperature, but gets bent out of shape easily. Fairly dense and sometimes flaky. Difficult to find a pure sample. Due to rust, aging samples are unable to create electricity.

Chemical Properties: Attempts to bond with any WO any chance it can get.

Also tends to form strong bonds with itself. Becomes explosive when mixed with KD (Element: CHILDIUM) for prolonged periods of time.

Neutralize by saturating with alcohol.

Usage: None known. Possibly good methane source. Good samples are able to produce large quantities on command.

Caution: In the absence of WO, this element rapidly decomposes and begins to smell. :-))

Scientology Berlin!
01.14.07 (8:58 pm)   [edit]

The word is in. The Grand Opening of the Church of Scienotlogy of Berlin was absolutely fantastic!

There were 5000 people there (including David Miscavige, Anne Archer and Chic Corea!) and the crowd went wild!

My friends told me that over 500 people toured throught he new church the first day! (and these were people who are not Scientologists). There is so much interest in Scientology, and the way the church is built, the whole bottom floor is an exhibition with panels and videos covering all the basic aspects of Scientology philosophy and our community programs and social betterment activities.

I haven't seen the displays there but I had the opportunity to go to the grand opening of the Church of Scientology of San Francisco and I'm sure a lot of the videos are the ones in the displays there, and they are really excellent. The present these basic points of Scientology beliefs and practices in a way the a person can really understand them easily. But as with everything about Scientology, this also helps the person in his or her own life, because these principles are things you can USE to make your life better. All the while someone is finding out about Scientology they are actually finding out about themselves!

Berlin - Wish I were There!
01.11.07 (5:23 pm)   [edit]
Another bunch of my friends left for Berlin last night, and two more are going tonight.

The grand opening of the Church of Scientology of Berlin is going to happen on Saturday.

It was such a surprise when Davdi Miscavige announced it at the New Years event two weeks ago.

It's a very exciting time in Scientology!

An Introduction to Scientology with L. Ron Hubbard
01.07.07 (7:37 pm)   [edit]
I have to share a win.

I saw the new An Introduction to Scientology interivew of L. Ron Hubbard and it wonderful

I had seen and loved the video when I saw it before, but a couple of years ago when I saw the version that was done in the 80's when it was colorized I had a hard time with it. There was something about it I found distracting. Now that I have seen this DVD I can understand why.

This film literally makes you feel like you are right there with LRH.

Anyone who has listened to a taped lecture by Ron will know what I mean when I say that listening to Ron is like listening to your dearest friend. He is warm, funny, and so personal. And this earlier version of the film didn't do justice to his level of communication and affinity.

And this one DOES. At the New Years Event last week, David Miscavige announced the release of this DVD, and showed us examples of the before and afters, and you just wouldn't beleive it if you didn't see it yourself (if you want to see it, and I certainly recommend you do, you can watch the event at any Scientology church or mission). Mr. Miscavige was so excited about this product, and now that I've seen it I can certainly see why and I am too! If you want to find out more about Scientology I really recommend you get a copy of this DVD!
