Church of Scientology of San Diego
03.28.06 (8:47 pm)   [edit]
San Diego is a really lovely city and they have a very active Scientology community.

I see they have recently redisigned their web site, and they are making it easy to link to it.

If you go to http://www.scientology-sandie... you can download and add a logo link to your blog or site.

Here's the one I liked best.

Controversy over new proposed Indonesian worship decrees
03.28.06 (8:36 pm)   [edit]
This story was published today on AsiaNews.it

The new regulations concerning the right to build places of worship violate the spirit of the 1945 constitution, minority rights and the principles of Pancasila, which recognises religious freedom. Catholic, Christian, Buddhist and Hindu leaders "strongly reject" the new decrees on building places of worship because they will just lead to social and inter-religious tensions and "do not guarantee freedom to minority religious groups who are currently denied the right to exercise their religious freedom as prescribed by the constitution".

What do you think of these proposed regulation? The new decrees—Nos 8 and 9—"follow the principles of the 1969 decree and fail to provide the necessary conditions for harmonious inter-faith relations. They instead have the opposite effect".

The 1969 Ministerial Decree required that each religious community get a local permit and the approval of local residents before it could build a place of worship. However, permits were hard to come by and Christians were generally forced to worship in semi clandestine places.

The new decrees were drafted following consultations with religious leaders, government officials and security forces. They uphold the old principles but clarify some of the requirements. For instance, they stipulate that a congregation can apply for a permit if it has at least 90 members and its demand is accepted by at least 60 members of another religious community.

Opposition to the new regulations has been voiced in parliament by 42 Catholic and Protestant lawmakers. Constantinus Ponggaw, a member of parliament with the Christian-based Prosperity and Peace Party, said at a press conference that "the new rules worry the faithful and run counter to the spirit of the 1945 constitution. They also breach minorities’ human rights".

Canadians Help Launch International Human Rights Hero Awards
03.23.06 (1:17 am)   [edit]
The Church of Scientology of Toronto carries a story on the launch of a new human rights award by the Church of Scientology International Human Rights Department. Although the event was held in Los Angeles, it had a good Canadian flavor.
Canadian actor Tyler Hynes and Church of Scientology Canadian public affairs director Al Buttnor were on hand in Los Angeles as Youth for Human Rights International (YHRI) and the Church jointly unveiled two new international human rights awards at a special announcement event held in Hollywood. The event was held at the Church of Scientology Advanced Organization of Los Angeles and webcast to human rights advocates around the world. The new awards, known as the Youth for Human Rights Hero Award for those twenty-one years of age and under and the Know Your Rights Hero Award for adults, recognize outstanding achievements in the promotion of human rights through implementation of one or more of the thirty articles of the United Nations Declaration on Human Rights (UDHR). Awardees will be announced after the April 30th deadline for world-wide nominations.

The Universal Declaration is a very surprising document. In just 30 articles it manages to do a comprehensive survey of human rights. If there is some right that isn't directly mentioned it will certainly be encompassed by one or more of the rights that are specifically stated.

Church of Scientology Celebrity Centre Kids on Stage for a Better World
03.23.06 (1:02 am)   [edit]
The Scientology Celebrity Centre sponsors a program called "Kids on Stage for a Better World." According to their web site:

Our group of kids and teens have done hundreds of community outreach events, as well as many at Celebrity Centre (CC) and have spread positive messages through song and dance.

The CC Kids promote that it is possible to have a civilization without drugs, insanity, hate or war, and make this world a better place. We often spread the "Joy of Creating", and sing and dance to a song with this title, written by L. Ron Hubbard who states, "The greatest joy there is in life is creating. Splurge on it."

I've seen these kids and they are pretty amazing -- self-confident, talented and with great raport with their audience.

Disaster Relief in Australia for Cyclone Larry
03.21.06 (10:51 pm)   [edit]
The category 5 cyclone that hit Australia two days ago has left the area completely devastated.

The Church of Scientology of Brisbane and other Scientology churches in Australia have put out a call to arms for donations to support the Scientology Volunteer Ministers Disaster Relief Team that is enroute to the area hardest hit by the storm.

They will train anyone who wishes to help.

Scientology Volunteer Ministers in Bostwana
03.21.06 (10:39 pm)   [edit]

This photo is part of a story on the Scientology Volunteer Ministers web site about the Goodwill Tour in Botswana:

The Grand Opening of the Scientology Volunteer Ministers center of Pandamatenga, Botswana was held on Saturday, the 7th of January, 2006.

Having completed their work in Francistown in Eastern Botswana, the African Scientology Volunteer Ministers Goodwill Tour is making ready to travel to Maun, the fifth largest city in this country. They are leaving behind a corps of newly trained Scientology Volunteer Ministers who will carry on their work, not only in Francistown, but also in the village of Pandamatenga, 250 km away.

The story of how the Volunteer Ministers came to Pandamatenga began several months ago when a man from the village visited the Goodwill tent in Francistown and decided to take a course in communication. He was so delighted with how much the course improved his abilities that he asked the tour members to bring L. Ron Hubbard’s Volunteer Minister techniques to the people of his village.

Students promote religious tolerance
03.11.06 (4:35 pm)   [edit]
The Southern Methodist University student university had this interesting article the other day. "In an effort to educate the SMU community about its faith, the Muslim Students Association is devoting a week to Islam awareness. "Wednesday’s event in Hughes-Trigg Commons carried the theme to media. The MSA hosted speakers Nahayia Javed and Hoda Said, two Muslim students from Baylor University desiring to spread tolerance around university campuses. "They talked about the ignorance perpetuated by the media’s unfair coverage and the lack of protection for the Muslims rights involved in the Danish cartoons controversy." for the full article
